A traditional apple pie recipe that is easy to make with simple ingredients.  Thin crust is optional and you can get creative with toppings.  One bite of this makes you appreciate all of the steps that went into creating this delicious classic.

Ingredients and Method


  • 3 cups Jonathan apples, cored and sliced thin
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon apple pie spice


  1. Prepare your favorite pie crust. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, mix apples, flour, butter and sugar. Mix together well.
  3. Put filling into the pie shell. Roll out top of pie crust and place over pie filling and outer crust. Crimp the edges together well.
  4. Sprinkle top of dough with sugar and cinnamon. Prick dough several times with fork.
  5. Place pie in oven for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, lower the oven temperature to 350 degrees F. and bake an additional 45 minutes.
  6. Let cool and serve by itself or with whipped cream or ice cream!
