Oatmeal Crispies


1 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar (firmly packed)
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs (well beaten)
1 teaspoon vanilla
1-1/2 cups sifted flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
3 cups quick oatmeal
1/2 cups nuts (chopped)


Cream the shortening, brown sugar and white sugar. Add and beat well the eggs and vanilla. Sift the flour, salt and baking soda, and add to the above mixture. Add the oatmeal and nuts and mix thoroughly. Form into to rolls, and wrap each with wax paper. Chill well. Slice and place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in a 350 degree oven until brown.
