Biscuits and gravy are a breakfast staple no matter what table you are at in the morning.  Over the years, we've noticed there are a lot of ideas on how to make the best biscuits and gravy, but we think our recipe is still the best.  So enjoy and add this to your list of best breakfast ideas!

Biscuits and Sausage Gravy Recipe

First, let's make the biscuits.  Let's gather up the ingredients:

2 cups flour
2 tablespoon sugar
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup milk

To make them, is fairly easy, but you will want to follow these directions carefully!

Start by sifting the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar and cream of tartar all together, before immediately adding the shortening and blending.  

Next, beat egg and milk together, and then add the flour mixture and blend all together.  

Once the dough has taken form, roll out the dough into a 1/2 inch thick layer.  Cut out biscuits with a biscuit cutter and place on a greased pan.  

Finish the operation by baking in a 375 degree F oven until golden brown.  This will take approximately 15 minutes.

Now that the biscuits are can work on the main event!  The sausage and gravy recipe.

One key to this you must use sausage!  You'll also notice our recipe is a "from scratch" recipe. Although there are many good mixes out there, you can't beat a homemade sausage gravy.

For our recipe you'll need the following -

2 pounds Burgers' Smokehouse pork sausage
1 gallon milk
3 and 1/2 cups flour
6 teaspoons salt
4 teaspoons Seasoning black pepper

To get started, first brown the sausage in a skillet on the stove top over medium heat until fully browned, breaking it up into small pieces.

Next, in a large pot add the milk, flour, salt and black pepper; stir until completely dissolved.  

And finally...the big finale...add browned sausage and cook over medium high temperature until gravy is thickness desired. 

Pro Tip - We recommend constant stirring until the gravy is cooked and thickened.
